Writing Your Auctions Listing This is such a crucial part of selling on ebay yet many people get it wrong – I certainly did when I started out. I wanted to make my items sound as good as possible and had no clue about the importance of using the right keywords in my listing. No wonder very few people found my items, and many items didn’t sell as a result.
Here’s what to do: Research what other sellers have said in their listings of similar items to yours. How to do this: Go to eBay pulseand using the drop-down menu called ‘categories’ search through the product categories until you find the most suitable one for you. Below the category box you will then be able to see the most popular search terms buyers have typed in to find items like yours. This is invaluable information.
Another way to find out what words to include in your listings is to use the ‘advanced search’ box at the top of most eBay pages. Click on that and you’ll be taken to a page where you can type in the relevant words that describe your item, choose the relevant category and click on ‘search’.
You’ll then see a page of auction results come up. Go to the lower left side of the page and check the box for ‘completed listings’. Then go to the ‘sort by’ drop down menu which is top right of the auction listings. If you choose ‘price highest first’ you’ll then be able to study all the items like yours that have sold recently.
This is such a goldmine of useful information!
You can see which items got the most bids and the highest price – what words did they use in their listings? You can also click on the best items and study everything about that auction/sale. You can see the sellers history, feedback, bids, description of the item, the design and layout of the listing. Emulate the best!
Also, study the items that didn’t attract bids, or didn’t sell. What did they do wrong? Make sure you avoid doing what they did!
Keywords - Vital to get them right to attract lots of visitors to your items. I personally use a keyword tool in addition to doing all the above and find it invaluable. I tell you lots more about this on my How to sell stuff on ebay page.
